Aug 5, 2021 | 2:44 PM Pete McIntyre

UPDATE Aug. 6

Parts of Vernon will not be getting Canada Post delivery services for a second day.

The Crown Corporation says due to continued poor air quality in the B.C. Interior caused by wildfire smoke, a red delivery service alert remains in effect.

“The safety of our employees is our number one priority. A Red service alert means that we are suspending delivery for the day and not sending our delivery agents out, as air quality conditions have made it unsafe. We continue to assess the situation and delivery will resume once it is deemed safe to do so,” said a news release from Canada Post.

The following regions will not have deliveries today:
Falkland
Westwold
Monte Lake
Parts of Vernon (postal codes starting with V1H)
Barnhartvale area
Kleena Kleene

Affected customers in Vernon can pick up their mail at the post office located at 3101 32nd Avenue.
Full mail delivery has been restored to Oliver.

The alerts will be posted on the Canada Post Service Alerts website, as well as on Twitter and Facebook. An alert can be issued for a particular community or an entire province, depending on the weather event.
