Investigation launched into lake death

PENTICTON, B.C. – A tragedy on Okanagan Lake is under investigation.

One man died after a couple of personal watercraft crashed on the lake in Penticton around 11:30 a.m. Thursday (Aug. 5).

The operator was taken to hospital and later died of their injuries.

Police officers attended the Summerland boat launch and the operator of one of the other watercraft identified themselves as an off-duty RCMP officer.

“The Independent Investigations Office B.C. has been notified and will be investigating the actions of the off-duty police officer. As the matter is now under investigation by the IIO BC, no further information will be released by police,” a news release from BC RCMP stated.
