More than 50 per cent of new COVID-19 cases in Interior Health
Interior Health continues to be the source of more than half of British Columbia’s new COVID-19 cases.
Over the weekend the province reported 1,434 new cases in the five health regions, with 734 in Interior Health (51.1 per cent of total).
On Saturday, there was 532 new cases provincially, 441 on Sunday and 461 on Monday.
Interior Health now has 2,982 active cases, which is 58.5 per cent of B.C.’s 5,090 cases.
Of the active cases, 104 people are in hospital and 47 are in intensive care.
In the past 72 hours, one new death (Fraser Health) has been reported, for an overall total of 1,780.
There are 10 active outbreaks:
* long-term care: Kin Village West Court, Evergreen Baptist Care Society (Fraser Health), Nelson Jubilee Manor, Kootenay Street Village, Cottonwoods Care Centre, Brookhaven Care Centre (Interior Health), and Discovery Harbour (Island Health)
* acute care: none
* assisted or independent living: Village at Mill Creek – second floor (Interior Health), Hawthorn Park and David Lloyd (Interior Health)
There are no new outbreaks since Friday. The outbreak at Holyrood Manor has been declared over. The Village at Mill Creek outbreak was inaccurately reported Friday as a long-term care outbreak — it is an assisted-living facility.
More than 7.2 million COVID vaccines have gone into arms in B.C. with 82.6 per cent of eligible people 12 and older getting one dose and 73.2 per cent receiving two doses.
Update on outbreaks:
· Nelson Jubilee Manor has four cases: one resident and three staff, with one death connected to the outbreak.
· Kootenay Street Village in Cranbrook has three cases: one resident and two staff.
· Brookhaven Care Centre in West Kelowna has 26 cases: seven residents and 19 staff.
· Cottonwoods Care Centre long-term care in Kelowna has 19 cases: 13 residents and six staff.
· Hawthorn Park assisted/independent living in Kelowna has five cases: one resident and four staff.
· David Lloyd Jones long-term care in Kelowna has 14 cases: nine residents and five staff.
· Village at Mill Creek long-term care in Kelowna has two cases: one resident and one staff.
