Evacuation alert lifted for Two Mile Road fire

The all clear has been given to all the homes and properties impacted by the Two Mile Road wildfire south of Sicamous.

An evacuation alert issued by the Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) for properties in the Swansea Point area of the CSRD’s Electoral Area E was lifted at noon today (Aug. 23).

The CSRD said all properties in the rescind area are now all clear of restrictions.

The areas now downgraded to all clear status are as follows:

  • All residences within the community of Swansea Point,
  • All residences that lie to the east of Mara Lake, north to the boundary of the CSRD and the District of Sicamous.

As the fire is not completely extinguished, residents are advised to continue to regularly monitor the CSRD website, www.csrd.bc.ca, or the Shuswap Emergency Program’s (SEP) webpage at www.shuswapemergency.ca

The BC Wildfire Service lists the Two Mile Road fire at 2,499 hectares, and it’s classified as out of control.

The fire began July 20, and the cause is under investigation.
