A firefighter was injured while working on the White Rock Lake wildfire today.

Todd Nessman, fire operations manager with the BC Wildfire Service, said the male firefighter fell down a hill and was transported to treatment.

“I know the individual was working on a steep slope and it sounds like something came dislodged and it sounds like he fell down a slope upwards of 100 feet,” Nessman told a provincial news conference Thursday.

“They were quite concerned with his injuries initially. We had an ambulance meet him on the ground, so having a patient go by ground is a good sign in that it wasn’t as serious as initially feared and we didn’t have to transport him by helicopter directly to hospital.”

Nessman did not say where the incident occurred.

The man was taken to Kelowna General Hospital with what were believed to be non-life threatening injuries.
