Evacuation orders lifted for final property affected by Mt. Law wildfire
There has been no significant growth or new fire activity at the Mt. Law wildfire over the past 24 hours, which has led to the evacuation order being downgraded for the final property affected by the blaze at 3250 Highway 97.
While the fire itself no longer poses a risk to the properties, owners returning home are asked to be extra cautious and aware of any potential hazards caused by the fire, such as downed power lines, unstable ground , fragile trees at risk of falling over, and distressed and displaced animals.
The West Kelowna Fire department confirms in a release that a planned ignition near Drought Creek Sunday was successful and has reinforced the guard on the east perimeter of the blaze though the smoke is still very active and visible in the area.
While there are no evacuation orders in place as of Monday, there are still properties under alert, and residents are advised to be prepared with plans and go-bags in case the fire grows and puts properties at risk once again.
The public is also reminded to not block emergency crews, to not stop or slow down to take pictures of fires, and to report any fires that appear or are growing to 911.
