Central Okanagan Search and Rescue retrieved an injured rock climber from trestle number 18 in Myra Canyon on the weekend. A bike team arrived first and administered first aid while waiting for a stretcher and trauma pack to arrive and take the patient out by UTV.

Canadians will go to the polls one week from today for the country’s 44th general election. This is the last of four straight days of advance voting. The polls will be open from 9 am to 9 pm. Find out where to vote on your voter card.

A group of BC community organizations want changes to the province’s COVID vaccine card, saying it fails to account for the needs of people who face legitimate barriers to getting a vaccine or proof of immunization. A joint letter to Health Minister Adrian Dix and provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says the plan could restrict access to services for people who can’t get a shot for medical reasons, as well as people without government ID.

The Train Station Pub in Kelowna is giving back to health care workers today. It’s offering a free meal to folks from KGH and the cancer clinic as a thank you for what they do so it’s closed to the general pubic. However they will have their famous hot dog stand outside for anyone who needs a bite. The indoor bookings were full yesterday, but they might have a cancellation or two.

If you haven’t been able to get your BC vaccine card yet, you’re okay until the 27th. Just be prepared to show your card proving you have had at least one vaccine and some picture ID. You need the picture ID with the BC vaccine card as well. You can get it at gov.bc.ca/vaccinecard or call 1-833-838-2323.

The RCMP say one of their officers is shaken, but not injured after being shot at during an attempted traffic stop in Surrey. When the officer turned on the cruiser’s emergency lights, the driver reached outside and fired two gunshots. The officer is said to have followed the suspect for a short distance before ending the pursuit for public safety reasons.

Remember that starting today there will be eastbound only traffic for Raymer Avenue between Richter and Ethel. It’s to allow for construction of an active transportation corridor and water utility improvements. It will link downtown to South Pandosy and the project is expected to be done by the end of November.

The weekend covid numbers for BC will be released later today as we head into the time of vaccine card requirement. If you wonder what you need it for, go to gov.bc.ca/vaccine card and scroll down a bit. There were 253 new cases in Interior Health on Friday and 62 people were in hospital.

Police in London, Ont., laid a criminal charge against a man they say threw gravel at Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau during a local campaign stop. 25-year-old Shane Marshall faces one count of assault with a weapon following the Labour Day incident. Last week, the People’s Party of Canada said it removed a man named Shane Marshall from the post of an Ontario riding association president.

She didn’t win the US Open, but Canada’s Leylah Fernandez won the hearts of New Yorkers on the 20th anniversary of 9-11. As she accepted the runner up trophy she said “Thank you for having my back, thank you for cheering me on… I hope I can be as strong and resilient as New York has been the last 20 years.”

BC Lions picked up their 3rd win of the season with a big 45-13 win over Ottawa on the weekend. They take on the Alouettes in Montreal on Saturday.

The Okanagan Sun used the combination of Dominic Britton and Mike O’Shea for four touchdowns connections which helped them improve to 2-0 on the season. They picked up a 62-6 rout of the Westshore Rebels on Saturday evening at Exhibition Field in Chilliwack.

The legendary Monza circuit was the site of the Formula 1 race yesterday where the winner was Daniel Ricciardo. The two points leaders, Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton took each other out in a crash.

The Seattle Seahawks won their 1st game of the season 28-16 over the Colts in Indianapolis yesterday. Seattle hosts Tennessee on Sunday. The Monday night game is in Vegas where the Raiders host the Baltimore Ravens.

The Toronto Blue Jays had a good weekend in Baltimore outscoring the Orioles 44-19. In 3 wins, the scores were 11-10, 11-2 and 22-7.
