Three deaths recorded in Interior as active COVID-19 cases fall
Active COVID-19 cases in Interior Health have fallen for the third day in a row, but that decline was offset by three deaths recorded in the health region on Wednesday.
The active cases fell to 1,536 as 196 new cases were recorded in the Interior.
The new cases were part of 661 provincewide, with 5,791 active COVID-19 cases in British Columbia.
Provincial figures show that between Sept. 7 and Sept. 13 there were 4,935 cases reported across B.C. Of those cases, 3,375, or 68.4 per cent, were unvaccinated individuals, 400, or 8.1 per cent of those cases, were in partially vaccinated people, and the fully vaccinated made up the remaining 1,160, or 23.5 per cent.
The three deaths in the Interior were part of seven across B.C. on Wednesday. Two were in the Vancouver Coastal health region while two were in the Island Health region. A total of 1,873 British Columbians have now died due to COVID-19 complications, and 214 of those deaths were recorded in the Interior.
The province reports that COVID-19 hospitalizations increased to 288 Wednesday, and that 137 of those patients are in intensive care. In the Interior there were 53 COVID-19 patients in hospital Wednesday, 47 of whom were in intensive care.
There had been 387 COVID hospitalizations reported in B.C. between August 31 and Sept. 13. Of those patients, 316, or 81.7 per cent, were not vaccinated, 22, or 5.7 per cent, were partially vaccinated, and 49, or 12.7 per cent, were fully vaccinated.
The first dose vaccination rate for British Columbians age 12 and over rose to 86.1 per cent of Wednesday, and 78.6 per cent of eligible recipients have received their second doses.
There was no change to the amount of health-care facility outbreaks, and 14 of the 24 active sites in the province are located in the Interior.

- Cottonwoods Care Centre long-term care in Kelowna has 30 cases: 20 residents and 10 staff, with six deaths connected to the outbreak.
- David Lloyd Jones long-term care in Kelowna has 55 cases: 41 residents and 14 staff, with seven deaths connected to the outbreak.
- Village at Mill Creek assisted living/independent living in Kelowna has 12 cases: seven residents and three staff with two deaths connected to the outbreak.
- Nicola Meadows assisted living/independent living in Merritt has seven cases: four residents and three staff, with one death connected to the outbreak.
- Hardy View Lodge long-term care in Grand Forks has four cases: one resident and three staff.
- Spring Valley Care Centre long-term care in Kelowna has 15 cases: 11 residents and four staff, with three deaths connected to the outbreak.
- Sun Pointe Village assisted living/independent living in Kelowna has eight resident cases, with one death connected to the outbreak.
- Kamloops Seniors Village long-term care has 19 cases: 10 residents and nine staff, with one death connected to the outbreak.
- Hillside Village long-term care in Salmon Arm has eight cases: three residents and five staff, with one dearh connected to the outbreak.
- The Hamlets at Westsyde long-term care in Kamloops has five cases: three residents and two staff.
- Joseph Creek Village long-term care in Cranbrook has 14 cases: nine residents and five staff, with one death connected to the outbreak.
- Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital in Trail has two patient cases.
