Volunteers needed for Okanagan College apple picking project
Okanagan College business students are running their Fruit Snaps project, and are calling for volunteers to help pick some apples.
The project, which is organized by the Enactus OC student group, sees unused apples picked from local orchards and then dehydrated so they can be donated to local schools and food banks as healthy snack alternatives.
The Fruit Snaps team will be picking apples at the orchard at 10168 Grey Rd. in Coldstream and are calling for volunteers to come out and lend a hand.
- Sunday, Sept. 19, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Wednesday, Sept. 22, 4 to 6 p.m.
- Saturday, Sept. 25, 10 am.m to 4 p.m.
- Wednesday, Sept. 29, 4 to 6 p.m.
Apple picking will follow public-health guidance, including physical distancing and mask requirements. All volunteers will be asked to perform a personal health check and not attend if they’re experiencing and COVID-19 related symptoms.
The Fruit Snaps program was first launched in 2018, and since then over 42,000 pounds of apples have been picked, dehydrated, and used to provide 75,000 servings of healthy snacks to school children and those in need.
