There are some closures on Ellis Street for water line work. Beginning today until the end of October, Ellis will be closed to motorists between Cawston and the north end of Cannery Lane. Cannery Lane will also be closed to through traffic and there will be no on-street parking.

Weather permitting, beginning today through Thursday, Hollywood Road North between McCurdy and Leathead will be closed to motorists between 7am and 5pm for paving. Drivers should use alternate routes to access Pearson Elementary and for drop-off and pick-up. Access to homes within the construction zone will be maintained.

Starting today, the BC Vaccine Card, and photo ID, will be the only accepted form of proof of vaccination for people 12 and over who live in BC. You are no longer be able to use the paper immunization record from your vaccine appointment. If you still need the card, go to gov.bc.ca/vaccinecard to apply online or get info how to do it by phone.

There were 1,268 active cases of covid 19 in Interior Health on Friday as 177 new positive tests were announced. There were almost 6,000 active cases in the province. As for vaccines, 80 percent of those 12 and over are fully vaccinated. That compares to 73 percent in Alberta.

Is an iconic name in Canadian retailing about to make a comeback? A Hudson’s Bay store in Burlington, Ontario has opened a Zellers area, within the Bay. HBC still owns the rights to the Zellers brand and says more in-store pop-ups could open featuring Canada-themed apparel and home goods.

One man died of injuries suffered in an ATV rollover accident on Postill Lake Road Saturday. Another man was airlifted to hospital after being found and secured by Central Okanagan Search and Rescue and BC Ambulance. This was COSAR’s third task of the week and the 83rd of the year.

Victoria is extending the food delivery service fee cap under the COVID-19 Related Measures Act. It was set to expire at midnight. The order will continue to cap fees charged to restaurants from food delivery companies to 15%. An additional cap of 5% will also be extended for other related fees associated with use of the service, such as online ordering and processing fees.

The weather may not be perfect today, but the fall edition of GoByBike Weeks begins and this time it will span two weeks rather than one. Westjet may be selling non-stop flights from Kelowna to Mexico this winter, but there is still no word on whether that will happen. So far the only approved international flight is one per day to Seattle starting in December. As of today, flights south have to connect through Vancouver or Calgary.

Sports

NHL preseason for the Vancouver Canucks began in Spokane last night went back and forth with Seattle for most of the game. But the Kraken scored twice in the third to kick off the franchise with a 5-3 win. Vancouver hosts Calgary tonight at Abbotsford Centre. The Canucks’ first TV game will be Friday in Calgary.

The Kelowna Rockets WHL preseason record was 2 wins and 2 losses after they lost both games to Kamloops on Friday and Saturday. Next up is the regular season opener October 8th in Victoria.

In Minneapolis, the Seattle Seahawks lost 30-17 to the Vikings to drop to 1 win and 2 losses to remain last in the NFC West. The Monday Night Game is in Arlington, Texas, where Dak Prescott and the Cowboys host Philadelphia in an NFC East clash.

Kelowna Chiefs KIJHL Exhibition Showcase for their preseason wrap was held on the weekend at Rutland Arena. In 3 games, the locals posted 2 wins and a tie to end that part of the schedule with 3 wins, 2 losses and a tie.

The West Kelowna Warriors split their BCHL weekend preseason home and home series with Salmon Arm. West Kelowna has another home game tomorrow, hosting Prince George.

The United States cruised to an easy win over Europe at the Ryder Cup in Wisconsin

And Lewis Hamilton picked up his 100th career Formula 1 win at the Russian Grand Prix.
