Active COVID-19 cases in the Interior remain flat as 118 new cases are recorded

Interior Health’s active case count remained flat at 1,142 on Thursday as 118 new cases were recorded in the region.

The new cases were part of 624 recorded provincewide, and B.C.’s active case count for Thursday was 5,929.

The Ministry of Health and B.C. Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) note that in the last week, 64.4 per cent of new cases were people who were unvaccinated, while 29.2 per cent were fully vaccinated.

B.C.’s COVID-19 hospitalization numbers rose Thursday to 373, with 132 of those patients in intensive care.

Data from the province shows that over the past two weeks, unvaccinated patients made up 70.4 per cent of hospitalizations, while 217 per cent of the patients were fully vaccinated individuals .

The province also reported four new COVID linked deaths on Thursday, none of which were located in the Interior. To date, 1,996 British Columbians have died due to the novel coronavirus.

The provincial first dose vaccination rate for British Columbians age 12 and over rose to 88.5 per cent Thursday, and 82.1 per cent of eligible residents have received both jabs.

There were no new health-care facility outbreaks announced Thursday, though one site in Northern Health region and one in the Island health jurisdiction were declared over, bringing the number of outbreak sites down to 16. Six of those active sites are located in the Interior.

  • Cottonwoods Care Centre long-term care in Kelowna has 53 cases: 41 residents and 12 staff, with six deaths connected to the outbreak.
  • Joseph Creek Village long-term care in Cranbrook has 15 cases: nine residents and six staff, with two deaths linked to the outbreak.
  • Overlander Long-Term Care in Kamloops has 25 cases: 19 residents and six staff, with two deaths linked to the outbreak.
  • Village by the Station long-term care in Penticton has 26 cases: 17 residents and nine staff, with one death connected to the outbreak.
  • Royal Inland Hospital unit 6N in Kamloops has two patient cases.
  • Haven hill Care Centre long-term care in Penticton has two resident cases.
