COVID-19 cases rise in B.C. with 13 more deaths
Thirteen more people have died of COVID-19 related issues in British Columbia, raising the overall death toll during the pandemic to 2,055.
Two of the deaths were in Interior Health (IH) and the other 11 were in Fraser Health.
New cases included 667 in B.C. (up from 580 on Thursday) with 101 in Interior Health, a decrease of three from Thursday.
Active cases are down by more than 200 in the province to 5,128.
Interior Health has 734 active cases, down 97 from the previous day.
Of the active cases, 367 people in B.C. are in hospital (decrease of 11) and 152 are in intensive care (decrease of one).
The new/active cases include:
- 246 new cases in Fraser Health with 2,221 active cases.
- 75 new cases in Vancouver Coastal Health with 724 active
- 101 new cases in Interior Health with 817 active
- 184 new cases in Northern Health with 734 active
- 59 new cases in Island Health with 572 active
- two new cases of people who reside outside of Canada with 60 active
As of today, 89.0 per cent of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 83.0 per cent have had two doses.
There has been one new health-care facility outbreak at GR Baker Memorial Hospital in Quesnel (Northern Health). The outbreak at Good Samaritan Delta View Care Centre (Fraser Health) has been declared over, for a total of 19 active outbreaks.
Update on Interior Health outbreaks:
- Cottonwoods Care Centre long-term care in Kelowna has 65 cases: 50 residents and 15 staff, with 12 deaths connected to the outbreak.
- Overlander Long-Term Care in Kamloops has 28 cases: 21 residents and seven staff, with five deaths connected to the outbreak.
- Village by the Station long-term care in Penticton has 33 cases: 19 residents and 14 staff, with three deaths connected to the outbreak.
- Haven Hill Care Centre long-term care in Penticton has nine cases: seven residents and two staff, with one death connected to the outbreak.
Past week cases (Oct. 7–13) – Total 4,019
- Not vaccinated: 2,478 (61.7 per cent)
- Partially vaccinated: 265 (6.6 per cent)
- Fully vaccinated: 1,276 (31.7 per cent)
Past two weeks cases hospitalized (Sept. 30 – Oct. 13) – Total 439
- Not vaccinated: 312 (71.1 per cent)
- Partially vaccinated: 23 (5.2 per cent)
- Fully vaccinated: 104 (23.7 per cent)
From Oct. 7–13, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 68.3 per cent of cases and from Sept. 30 – Oct. 13, they accounted for 76.3 per cent of hospitalizations.
