B.C. COVID-19 update: 560 new cases, five deaths
Interior Health’s COVID-19 case count saw 79 new infections on Tuesday.
Active cases in the health region fell by 60 to 717.
In British Columbia, the daily total hit 560 cases, led by the 208 in Fraser Health. Active cases in B.C. fell by 6 to 4,913.
Of the active cases in the province, 382 people are in hospital (up by 22) and 146 are in intensive care (down by 5).
Since Monday, five more people have died from the virus, raising the province’s death toll to 2,086. Two of the deaths were in Northern Health, two in Fraser Health and one in Island Health.
There has been one new health-care facility outbreak at The Emerald at Elim Village (Fraser Health), for a total of 23 active outbreaks.
Update on Interior Health outbreaks:
- Cottonwoods Care Centre long-term care in Kelowna has 67 cases: 52 residents and 15 staff, with 13 deaths connected to the outbreak.
- Overlander Long-Term Care in Kamloops has 28 cases: 21 residents and seven staff, with five deaths connected to the outbreak.
- Village by the Station long-term care in Penticton has 34 cases: 20 residents and 14 staff, with three deaths connected to the outbreak.
- Haven Hill Care Centre long-term care in Penticton has 12 cases: 10 residents and two staff, with one death connected to the outbreak.
Past week cases (Oct. 11-17) – Total 3,997
- Not vaccinated: 2,407 (60.2%)
- Partially vaccinated: 277 (6.9%)
- Fully vaccinated: 1,313 (32.8%)
Past two weeks cases hospitalized (Oct. 4-17) – Total 384
- Not vaccinated: 268 (69.8%)
- Partially vaccinated: 22 (5.7%)
- Fully vaccinated: 94 (24.5%)
As of Tuesday, 89.2 per cent of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 83.5 per cent are fully vaccinated.
