Just before 10am yesterday, Kelowna RCMP were called to One Water Street on Sunset Drive after a report of a woman falling from a balcony. Police found an adult woman who was pronounced deceased at the scene. Authorities do not believe criminality was involved and the Coroners Service is conducting a concurrent investigation to determine how and by what means she came to her death.

A huge police turnout on Pandosy yesterday evening after reports of a man carrying a gun. The road was shut down in the 1900 block from Lake Avenue to Elliott Avenue as police determined the man was inside an apartment. With help from the Emergency Response team, the suspect was arrested after a couple of hours and Pandosy was reopened.

Kelowna RCMP and BC Coroners Service are investigating a motor vehicle fatality at the intersection of Richter and Doyle downtown. It happened Sunday about 1pm and involved just 1 vehicle that was badly damaged when it crossed into the oncoming traffic lanes and hit a light post. A 37-year-old man from Kelowna was pronounced dead at the scene.

A police service dog named Mysan helped his handler track a man for several kilometres after he put a vehicle in the ditch on Bullman near Highway 97 on Friday. The 32 year old Calgary man was taken into custody and then released with strict conditions. Police found quantities of what are believed to be illicit drugs from the vehicle and on the suspect.

A 44-year-old man, known to police, was arrested Friday evening after taking a chainsaw to two businesses in Summerland. It happened inside a liquor store and gas station. All occupants were able to leave without being harmed, and after an hour, the man surrendered to officers and was safely taken into custody.

A fire at Kelowna Electroplating on Ross Road in West Kelowna was doused quickly by fire crews yesterday afternoon. Workers had managed to slow the fire in a metal shavings hopper with an extinguisher before evacuating the building. There were no injuries and the fire is not suspicious.

There were 254 new cases of covid-19 in the Interior Health Authority over the weekend. The number of active cases dropped to 665 from 778 on Friday. There were 20 deaths in the 72 hour period of which 6 were in this region. 90 percent of BC residents have now received their first dose of vaccine.

Premier John Horgan says everyone in BC should be driving electric vehicles by 2035. That was one of the things announced as he outlined a stronger climate action plan for the province. The CleanBC Roadmap introduces new ideas to help BC achieve the Paris emissions reduction targets for 2030 and reach net-zero by 2050.

The Vancouver Canucks have the first of 7 straight home games tonight when they take on Minnesota. So far this season Vancouver has 3 wins, 2 losses and an overtime loss.

Marcel Desjardins is no longer a part of the Ottawa Redblacks after eight years as general manager. Desjardins is the only G-M in team history, having been hired by the expansion team in 2013.

Monday Night Football in rainy Seattle, the Seahawks lost another game without quarterback Russell Wilson. In a low-scoring game, the New Orleans Saints beat Seattle by a field goal, 13-10.

Winnipeg Jets left wing Kyle Connor, Edmonton Oilers center Connor McDavid and New York Islanders goaltender Ilya Sorokin have been named the NHL’s “Three Stars” for the week ending October 24.

Even though many junior hockey teams in the province are welcoming as many vaccinated and masked fans as capacity will allow, that is not the case around here. Interior Health says they have had no change in orders from the Public Health Officer, so the Rockets, Warriors and Chiefs are still only allowed 50 percent.

Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr. is joining the Seattle Mariners’ partnership group. Griffey played with the M’s for 13 seasons, and is the first former player in team history to become a partner.
