RCMP are looking into a shooting incident Wednesday night in Rutland. A house was fired at in the 800 block of Kiniski Road between Creekside and Springfield about 11pm. There were 6 adults inside, but no one was injured. A search of the area didn’t turn up any suspects and police are trying to figure out why the house was targeted.
Don’t forget that the COVID-safe Spooktacular Pumpkin Walk is happening this weekend at Mission Creek Park. You can take part by dropping off a carved pumpkin at the EECO today from 1-4 or tomorrow from noon to 3, and they ask for an LED light inside. Tomorrow from 5 to 8pm, wear your Halloween costume and tour the paths lit up by jack-o-lanterns. Vote for your favourites and prizes will be awarded.
Interior Health was back over 100 new cases of covid-19 yesterday at 108 with 664 active cases. For all of BC there were 758 and there are just under 5,000 active cases. There were 10 additional deaths bringing the total to 2,147… 4 of the new ones were in the Interior.
With Halloween on Sunday, the RCMP is reminding trick or treaters and drivers to be extra careful. Make sure kids’ costumes are visible and they have good visibility through any masks. Carry a flashlight and don’t go running across roads. Drivers are urged to slow down, especially in neighbourhoods where there might be little ones out collecting loot.
If you are still needing a first or second covid-19 vaccine, drop-in clinics are still operating in our area. In Kelowna, it’s in the Capri Mall and is open from 830-3 today, tomorrow and Sunday. The second dose can be given as soon as 28 days after the first.
A former Canadian reservist has described a white supremacist plot he got involved with as a ‘colossal failure of judgment.’ A judge sentenced Patrik Mathews from Manitoba to nine years in prison for his role in what the FBI called a violent plot to exploit escalating American social tensions and trigger a ‘race war.’
All BC residents from toddlers to centenarians are being told to get a flu shot this year. There’s concern the virus could pack even more punch after disappearing almost entirely last season during the height of the pandemic. The shots are free for everyone this year and clinics are now open and online bookings can be made at ImmunizeBC.ca and click on Find a Clinic.
Premier John Horgan says he will have biopsy surgery today because of a growth in his throat. He says he noticed a lump and a later test revealed the growth. Public Safety Minister Mike Farnworth has been appointed deputy premier to support him. The premier says he won’t step down and he plans to retain his position as the head of the Council of the Federation.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg says his company is changing its corporate name to Meta, in an effort to encompass its virtual-reality vision for the future. He says that the metaverse – what you might think of as the internet rendered in three dimensions, represents the next technological horizon for humanity. The Facebook, What’sApp and Instagram platforms will not change names.

The Kelowna Rockets are on the road tonight to take on the Vancouver Giants in Langley. Then they are back home at Prospera Place tomorrow at 7 when the Victoria Royals make the trip from the Island.
The Vancouver Canucks continue their home stand tomorrow with a 7pm start against Edmonton. Last night at Rogers Arena, Vancouver lost its second straight home game, 2-1 to Philadelphia.
Just one home game for the BC Hockey League’s West Kelowna Warriors this weekend. It’s tonight at Royal LePage Place when the Powell River Kings visit with a 7 o’clock face off.
At the Thursday Night Football game in Phoenix, an end zone interception with 12 seconds left, cemented a 24-21 win for Green Bay as they handed the Arizona Cardinals their first loss of the year.
In KIJHL play this weekend, the Kelowna Chiefs host Osoyoos tonight at 7 at Rutland Arena before heading to Summerland for a Sunday afternoon game.
The BC Lions will try to salvage a bit of their season and possibly save the coach’s job tomorrow when the take on the 6 & 4 Argos in Toronto at 1pm. BC has 4 wins and 6 losses, including that 45-0 blowout in Winnipeg last week.
