1,370 new COVID-19 cases in B.C., 25 more deaths
The death toll from COVID-19 continues to mount, with 25 more British Columbians dying of the virus over the weekend.
It raises the provincial total to 2,181.
Seven of the victims lived in the Interior Health (IH) region, with eight in Fraser Health, five in Northern Health and five in Island Health.
The grim numbers were accompanied by 1,370 new COVID-19 cases in B.C. since Friday, which is an average of 457 per day. Interior Health had 222 new infections (average of 74 per day).
The breakdown of the provincial cases was 568 on Saturday, 470 on Sunday and 332 today.
IH has 588 active cases (down by 96 from Friday) while provincially there are 4,668 (down by 314).
Of the active B.C. cases, 436 people are in hospital (same as Friday) and 140 are in intensive care (down by 16).
Fraser Health tops the five health regions with 603 new cases and 2,024 active cases. Vancouver Coastal Health has the fewest active cases with 570.
There have been six new health-care facility outbreaks at Cascade Gardens, The Cedars, Hallmark on the Lake (Fraser Health), Brocklehurst Gemstone Care Centre, Sun Pointe Village (Interior Health) and Chartwell Malaspina Care Residence (Island Health), for a total of 39 active outbreaks.
Seven of the outbreaks are at facilities in Interior Health:
· Cottonwoods Care Centre long-term care in Kelowna has 70 cases: 55 residents and 15 staff, with 17 deaths connected to the outbreak.
· Overlander Long-Term Care in Kamloops has 28 cases: 21 residents and seven staff, with five deaths connected to the outbreak.
· Village by the Station long-term care in Penticton has 41 cases: 27 residents and 14 staff, with three deaths connected to the outbreak.
· Haven Hill Care Centre long-term care in Penticton has 12 cases: 10 residents and two staff, with one death connected to the outbreak.
· Deni House long-term care in Williams Lake has 12 cases: 10 residents and two staff, with one death connected to the outbreak.
· Sun Pointe Village long-term care in Kelowna has nine cases: six residents and three staff.
· Brocklehurst Gemstone long-term care in Kamloops has two cases: one resident and one staff.
As of today, 90 per cent of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 85.3 per cent have had two doses.
From Oct. 22-28, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 64.6 per cent of cases. From Oct. 15-28, they accounted for 73.5 per cent of hospitalizations.
