One COVID-19 death and 95 new cases in Interior Health

The COVID-19 death toll for the Interior has climbed to 271 as a new death attributed to the virus was identified in the region Tuesday.

The death was one of five recorded across the province, and to date a total of 2,186 British Columbians have died due to COVID-19.

The increased death toll comes as 406 new COVID-19 cases were reported across B.C. including 95 that were in the Interior.

As of Tuesday there were 613 active COVID-19 cases in the Interior, and 4,694 in all of B.C.

The province notes that over the past week, 58.9 per cent of new cases were identified in people who were unvaccinated, and 35.6 per cent of those who tested positive were fully vaccinated.

COVID-19 hospitalizations in B.C. also rose to 445 on Tuesday, and 137 of those patients are in intensive care.

Over the course of the past two weeks, 66.9 per cent of hospitalizations were people who had not received a COVID-19 vaccine, while 27.6 per cent of patients were fully vaccinated.

As of today, 90 per cent of British Columbians age 12 and older have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while 85.4 per cent of eligible residents have received both jabs.

There were two new health-care facility outbreaks recorded in B.C. on Tuesday, including the Royal Inland Hospital in the Interior. There were 41 active outbreak sites across the province, with seven of those sites located in the Interior, as the Overlander long-erm care facility in Kamloops was removed from the list.

  • Royal Inland Hospital unit 5S in Kamloops: case numbers to be released Wednesday
