Snowfall statement extended to Coquihalla
Environment Canada has expanded a special weather statement issued Friday morning to include the Coquihalla.
The weather agency said 15 to 20 centimetres is expected to fall on the Coquihalla’s Okanagan Connector and all along the highway from Hope to Kamloops Saturday night.
The heavy snowfall is expected to turn into persistent rain Sunday as the mercury rises above freezing level. That rain could last through Monday, bringing with it the chance of excessive melt off causing localized flooding.
Environment Canada warns that weather can change quickly in the mountains, causing road hazards in the process. Motorists are advised to check road conditions at DriveBC, to be prepared with winter tires, chains and emergency supplies, and to allow for extra time for their commute.
