The Okanagan Indian Band (OKIB) has issued an evacuation alert.

The alert was issued by the band’s emergency operations centre Tuesday due to recent rainfall creating a risk of potential flooding and debris flow for several properties.

Residences under the notice include north of Westside Road from 12020 Westside Road to 11820 Westside Road including residents on Tatalux and North Tatatlux Roads.

Residents in the affected area are advised to be prepared to leave their homes at a moments notice if the alert should change to an order. OKIB said residents will be given as much advance notice as possible prior to evacuation, though changing conditions may limit the time available to give notice.

OKIB recommends people establish a rendezvous location in case an order is issued when a family member is away from the home; to have essential items like government issued identification, medication, valuable papers and documents, and eyeglasses packed and stored in an easy to access area; and to have vehicles maintained and available.

Residents without transportation of their own or who have mobility problems should arrange for someone to help them leave the area if the order is issued.

Pet owners are reminded to have food and other essentials for their animals, such as medication, packed and ready to go in case of an evacuation order being issued.
