Lifting of capacity limits big relief to junior hockey teams
Junior hockey teams are among the most pleased that capacity limits on indoor events and gatherings will be lifted in Interior Health as of midnight tonight, Nov. 30.
Officials with the Kelowna Rockets say it means they will be able to host a game at Prospera Place with 100 per cent capacity for the first time since the 2019-20 season.
“We have waited a long time for this news,” said Rockets president and general manager Bruce Hamilton.
“The Kelowna Rockets and Prospera Place have had vaccine passports and masking protocols in place since the season began. We can’t wait to welcome all of the loyal Rockets fan base who meet the British Columbia vaccination passport criteria back into the building.
Up until today’s announcement, indoor organized events have been limited to 50 people, or 50 per cent of a venue’s capacity – whichever was greater – while outdoor events continue to have capacity restrictions of 5,000 people or 50 per cent capacity, whichever is greater. Mask requirements for public indoor settings remain in effect.
The Rockets next home game is Wednesday night, Dec. 1, when they’ll host the Vancouver Giants at 7:05 p.m.
All fans attending Rockets games will need to abide by the provincial rules which includes masks, double vaccination and their vaccine passport.
