UPDATE: Police provide details on serious pedestrian incident

RCMP continue to investigate a serious pedestrian-involved collision in Vernon.

On Thursday Dec. 16 at around 2:30 p.m., emergency responders from the BC Ambulance Service, Vernon Fire Rescue Services and RCMP responded to the parking lot of a business in the 2500-block of 53rd Ave. where a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle in a parking lot.

“The victim, a 50-year-old woman, was transported from the scene for treatment of serious, life threatening injuries. The driver of the vehicle remained at scene and is cooperating with police who are continuing to investigate the collision,” said Constable Chris Terleski, media relations officer.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision, and have not already spoken to investigators, to contact Constable Richard Lausman of the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP at 250-545-7171.

Crews deal with medical emergency in mall parking lot

Emergency personnel were on the scene of an incident in the city’s north end this afternoon.

RCMP, Vernon Fire-Rescue and BC Ambulance were dealing with a medical emergency and an air ambulance helicopter landed in the Village Green Centre’s parking lot to airlift a person to hospital.

The City of Vernon said RCMP are investigating the incident.

“At approximately 2:30 p.m., Vernon Fire Rescue was dispatched to a motor vehicle incident involving a pedestrian in the 2500-block of 53rd Avenue,” said Christy Poirier, communications manager with the city. “Upon arrival, firefighters found one person had sustained severe injuries after being struck by a vehicle. A medevac helicopter was called in to the scene and landed in a nearby parking lot; however, the patient was transported by ground ambulance to the hospital.”

BC Emergency Health Services confirmed the details provided by the city,  with the addition that the victim was taken to hospital in serious condition.

“An air ambulance that was in the vicinity at the time responded along with two paramedic ground units,” Jane Campbell, communications officer with BCEHS told Vernon Matters.

RCMP have not provided details on the incident so far.
