B.C. hits another record high with 4,383 new COVID-19 cases

British Columbia has seen another daily-case record shattered as 4,383 new cases were confirmed in the province Thursday.

The new cases bring the provincial active case count up to 17,357.

The Interior was home to 501 of those new cases Thursday, bringing the regional active COVID-19 case count up to 1,713.

There have now been a total of 2,825 cases of the Omicron variant confirmed in the province, 152 of which were located in the Interior.

The Ministry of Health said that, as of Thursday, 211 British Columbians were in hospital due to COVID-19, 66 of whom were in intensive care.

One death ,which was located in the Interior, was also confirmed Thursday. A total of 2,420 British Columbians have now died due to the virus, 298 of whom were located in the Interior.

British Columbia’s vaccination rates made some gains Thursday, as 88 per cent of eligible residents aged five and over have received one dose of a vaccine and 82.9 per cent have received two jabs.

Additionally, 91.9 per cent of British Columbians aged 12 and over have received one dose, while 89.1 per cent of that age group have gotten two jabs and 19.1 per cent have received a third or a booster shot.

Six new health-care facility outbreaks were announced Thursday, all of which were located in the Fraser Health jurisdiction. A total of 13 outbreaks are ongoing in B.C., with Kamloops’ Ridgeview Lodge being the only site located in the Interior.
