A T-bone collision in Sicamous Thursday (Feb. 17) claimed the lives of an Okanagan mother and child.

RCMP say the crash took place just after 9:00 a.m. Thursday in the 1800-block of Trans Canada Highway.

Investigators believe an eastbound pickup truck lost control and veered into the westbound lane. While the driver of a westbound tractor trailer unit tried to avoid the collision, he could not, and his rig T-boned the pickup truck.

The driver of the pickup, a 45-year-old woman from Okanagan Falls, and her child both died at the scene.

The driver of the semi-truck unit was not injured and remained on scene to assist investigators.

“While the investigation remains in the very early stages, speed and alcohol have been ruled out and it appears that winter road conditions may have contributed to this tragic collision,” said Sgt. Murray McNeil of Sicamous RCMP. “Our thoughts are with the woman’s family at this very difficult time.”
