Man accused of stealing a taxi
Police arrested a suspect after a taxi was stolen in Kelowna.
RCMP responded to a report of theft of taxi on Highway 33 just after 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 24.
“The driver had called police for assistance after becoming involved in an altercation with a male customer,” explained Cst. Mike Della-Paolera, media relations officer. “While on route to the call, officers learned the customer had allegedly fled the scene by driving away in the taxi.”
Officer spotted the taxi a short distance away, and with the help of RCMP Police Dog Services, officers located the suspect in a parking lot off of Powick Road.
“Police Service Dog Jak and his handler apprehended the suspect who resisted arrest. He was subsequently treated by EHS for minor injuries,” said Della-Paolera.
The 35-year-old suspect could face charges of theft of motor vehicle and resisting arrest.
