Interior continues to lead B.C. in new COVID-19 cases

Interior Health continues to have the highest concentration of new COVID-19 cases.

The region was home to 76 new infections Tuesday. The health authority with the second highest new case count was Vancouver Coastal Health with 63, followed by Island Health with 50.

A total of 259 new cases were confirmed across B.C.

There were no deaths linked to the virus Tuesday, and the number of British Columbians hospitalized with COVID-19 fell by 17 to 254. Of those patients, 48 were in intensive care, which is one fewer than the day before.

The provincial vaccination rates for British Columbians age five and over were reported at 90.8 per cent for first doses and 87.1 per cent for second dose coverage. Additionally, 57.1 per cent of British Columbians aged 12 and over have received a booster.

There were no new COVID-19 outbreaks at health-care facilities in B.C. Tuesday, and the outbreak at the Ponderosa Assisted Living facility in Kamloops was among the three declared over. There remained five active outbreaks in B.C. including the Hillside Village nursing home in Salmon Arm.
