COVID-19 hospitalizations and cases down in B.C.

Wednesday was a relatively quiet day on B.C.’s COVID-19 front with hospitalizations and new case numbers both showing decreases.

The province reported 329 people in hospital with the virus, a decrease of 5 from Tuesday, with 37 of those in intensive care, an increase of two.

B.C. is reporting 216 new cases of COVID-19, down from the 258 on Tuesday.

The new cases include:

* Interior Health: 76 (decrease of 9)

* Fraser Health: 55

* Island Health: 39

* Vancouver Coastal Health: 31

* Northern Health: 15

An update on number of deaths related to COVID-19 will be provided on Thursday, April 7.

There have been no new health-care facility outbreaks.

The outbreak at Surrey Memorial Hospital (Fraser Health) has been declared over, for a total of 11 facilities with ongoing outbreaks, including three in Interior Health: Monashee Mews (Lumby), Parkview Place (Enderby) and Overlander (Kamloops).

As of today, 90.9 per cent of eligible people five and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, 87.5 per cent have had two doses, and 57.8 per cent of those 12 and older have had a booster shot.

As of April 6, people not vaccinated accounted for 12 per cent of the B.C. population, while they account for 19 per cent of COVID-19 critical care patients in hospital.

Wednesday was the last daily, weekday COVID-19 update issued by the province, which changes to weekly reports as of Apr. 7.
