Police Service Dog Mysan nabbed a couple of guys early Wednesday morning. RCMP responded to a report of a gas theft at construction site in the area of Highway 33 and Pyman Road where people were seen filling up large barrels with gas in the back of a cube van. The suspects ran off into some brush but were tracked down by the K9 and received minor injuries in the arrest process.

You may not have heard about it, but there’s a lottery called BC/49, and a ticket sold in Kelowna is worth 2 Million dollars. The draw was Wednesday night. It only costs a buck to play and draws for the 2 Million top prize are Wednesday and Saturday. Check the BCLC website for all winning lottery numbers.

Starting today, you can pick up covid test kits at pharmacies in BC without having to show your Care Card. Health Minister Adrian Dix hasn’t said if residents still have to wait 28 days before getting another package. However, they say not to go to the pharmacy to get one if you are not feeling well.

Restaurants, bars and liquor manufacturers in BC have more time to apply to make temporary patio service areas permanent as they recover from the pandemic. It was to end June 1, but has been extended to the end of March next year. Businesses are encouraged to submit applications as soon as possible, as officials need to evaluate structures and outdoor licensed areas.

This is the day the rest of the major covid restrictions in BC are repealed. The big one is you no longer have to show your vaccine card to enter a public space unless a business wants to keep it in place. Also, the requirement for students living in residence needing to be fully vaccinated is gone. The government has also cut back to reporting covid numbers weekly, on Thursdays, instead of daily.

Russian troops left behind crushed buildings, streets littered with destroyed cars and residents in dire need of food and other aid in a northern Ukrainian city. It gave fuel to the country’s calls for more Western support to help halt Moscow’s offensive before it refocuses on the country’s east. Off-season, dog access pilot projects have ended in two regional parks in Lake Country. Regular rules prohibiting dogs are back in effect in Kaloya and Kopje regional parks. The pilot projects temporarily allowed dogs off-leash in Kopje and on-leash on trails within Kaloya Park during the slower winter months.

The Okanagan Valley Goose Management Program is conducting its 16th annual egg-addling program. It’s the least invasive form of population control, supported by many animal welfare groups such as the U.S. Humane Society, which provides a protocol to ensure the addling process is humane and effective.

Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland tabled the 2022 federal budget yesterday which included 452 billion in new spending on projected revenue of 408 billion for a deficit of 53 billion dollars. The defence budget got new money with more than 8 billion pledged over five years. The budget will try to deliver some pricing relief by banning foreign buyers from home purchases for the next two years.

The West Kelowna Warriors can wrap up their BC hockey league playoff series with the win against the Vernon Vipers tonight. Going into the game at Royal LePage place at 7, the Warriors lead 3 games to one.

Two home games for the Kelowna Rockets this weekend. Both are against the Vancouver giants. The first is tomorrow at 7 PM and the second is on Sunday at 4 PM at Prospera Place.

The Vancouver Canucks wrapped up their 2 game road trip last night with a 5-1 win against Arizona. Bo Horvat had 2 goals in 38 seconds in the 2nd period. The Canucks host San Jose tomorrow at 7.

Meantime, after 19 years, Doug Wilson is stepping down as general manager of the San Jose Sharks. The 64-year-old has been on medical leave since November. Assistant general manager Joe Will, will continue to serve as interim GM until a new hire is in place.

Heading into the 2nd round of the Masters in Augusta, Georgia, Korea’s Sungjae Im is in sole possession of the lead at 5 under par. Tiger Woods is one under while Canadian Corey Conners was 2 under par in the first round.

The Formula One road show has moved to Melbourne, Australia for this weekend. Because of the time difference, the race actually happens late Saturday night our time.
