Fatal collision on Highway 97 backs up traffic

Traffic has been backed-up on Highway 97 north of Kelowna after a fatal incident this morning.

Police say just before 7:00 a.m., they were called to the intersection of Highway 97 and Old Vernon Highway to assist with a fatal collision between a cyclist and a motor vehicle.

“Kelowna RCMP have closed the intersection down to one lane in all directions until further notice and have traffic control persons in place to assist,” said Cst. Mike Della-Paolera, media relations officer.

RCMP are asking motorists and pedestrians avoid the intersection at this time.

An update will be provided once more details are available.

“Kelowna RCMP are requesting that if there are any witnesses to please come forward or if you have any dash camera surveillance from around the time of this collision to also please contact the Kelowna RCMP at (250) 762-3300,” added Della-Paolera.
