UPDATE: No new details from police on fatal Vernon shooting

RCMP are not releasing any further details at this time on a fatal shooting incident in Vernon on Friday night.
One resident estimated up to six shots were fired as a 38-year-old man was killed in a residential area in the 5300 block of 25th Avenue near the Landing Plaza on June 3.
His body was located in a parking lot.
Vernon Matters reached out to the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP for more details today.
“We do not have any additional information for release at this time,” said Constable Chris Terleski, media relations officer.
Police have not released the victim’s name, but say he was known to them and the incident was targeted.
There has been no details on possible suspects or arrests to this point.
Police are looking to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or anyone who may have dash cam footage or surveillance video in the area.

Man dies in shooting in Vernon residential area

RCMP are investigating what they call a targeted fatal shooting incident that took place in Vernon on Friday evening.
Shortly before 6 p.m., the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP responded to a report of shots fired at a residential building in the 5300-block of 25th Avenue in an incident first reported by Vernon Matters.

“Frontline officers responding to the location found a 38-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP’s Serious Crimes Unit has taken conduct of the investigation,” said Constable Chris Terleski, media relations officer.
Terleski said the area has been secured and will remain cordoned off as officers conduct their examination of the scene and continue their investigation.
“Preliminary findings of the investigation suggest this to be a targeted incident,” said Inspector Blake MacLeod, Operations Officer for the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP. “The victim is known to police and we do not believe the safety of the public is at risk.”
Police are interested in speaking with anyone who may have witnessed the incident and are asking anyone who may have dash cam footage or surveillance footage in the area to contact police directly and immediately at (250) 545-7171.
No additional information is available for release at this time.

Heavy police presence on 25th Avenue in Vernon, reports of shots fired

A major police incident is underway on 25th Avenue in Vernon.
One person told Vernon Matters, the RCMP have the road blocked off with about ten police vehicles on site near the Big Chief Mobile Home Park and the Landing Plaza.
“One lady said there was six shots fired,” said one person who spoke to Vernon Matters. “Everybody heard it, it was quite loud.”
Vernon Matters has reached out to RCMP for details.
Reporter Liam Verster said traffic is being redirected near the Landing Plaza.
There are unconfirmed reports a person may have been shot with a possible body in a parking lot.
