The Emergency Operations Centre is asking property owners to leave debris washing up on shore from the Mission Creek flood, in place until water levels recede as it helps to protect from further shore erosion. Heading into the weekend, boaters are asked to be mindful of their speed and wake to prevent property damage. Crews have been out inspecting creeks and bridges for debris and water has been flowing freely with no blockages.

Central Okanagan Search and Rescue continued to look yesterday for a woman and her dog that were going for a walk near the Greenway on Wednesday. Her car was found parked at the North end of Pasadena road. Chelsea Cardno is 4’11” tall, 108 lbs with brown hair and blonde highlights. There’s a picture in the news tab on our website.

November’s floods in BC that swamped homes and farms, swept away roads and bridges and killed five people are now the most costly weather event in provincial history. The Insurance Bureau of Canada’s latest cost estimate is 675 million dollars, and that’s only for damage that was insured. Many residents were located in high-risk flood areas where insurance coverage isn’t available, and that could cost all levels of government well into the Billions of dollars.

The Boyd Autobody & Glass Charity Car Show returns to City Park in celebration of Father’s Day on Sunday. Lane and parking restrictions will be in effect along Leon, Water, Lawrence and Abbott from 6-11am. Parking in the first bay of the main lot at City Park will be restricted starting at 3pm on Saturday to accommodate set-up and will be fully closed throughout the day on Sunday.

Automakers reported nearly 400 crashes of vehicles with partially automated driver-assist systems, including 273 involving Teslas. US safety regulators cautioned against using the numbers to compare automakers, saying it didn’t weight them by the number of vehicles from each manufacturer that use the systems. Tesla has about 830-thousand vehicles with the systems on the road.

The CRTC is fining Bell Canada 7-1/2 Million dollars for violations of the Telecommunications Act. The agency says Bell denied permit applications from Quebec’s Videotron that would have given it access to the telecom giant’s telephone poles. It says this delayed Videotron’s network deployment and created a competitive advantage for Bell.

Police are looking to return some important historical and personal items to their rightful owners. In January, Kelowna RCMP located a Canadian discharge certificate from World War I and Canadian war medals from World War II in possession of a man who was not the rightful owner. The discharge certificate was in the name of Corporal John Milliman Wintermute who served in both England and France and was discharged on May 17, 1919. The Regional District Waste Reduction Office is offering free recycling workshops and education information for multi-family properties, condos and apartment buildings to help residents and property managers with their recycling efforts. A report into money laundering in BC says lack of attention by the RCMP let the crime rise unchecked, allowing billions into the financial system. It adds provincial politicians knew suspicious cash was circulating in Vancouver-area casinos but didn’t do enough to stop it. However, the report says there was no evidence of political or personal corruption, but the anti-money laundering actions taken by the former BC Liberal government were not enough to stop the flow of illegal cash.

The Stanley Cup final kicked off in Denver last night and Andre Burakovsky scored a minute-23 into overtime to send the hometown fans away happy with a 4-3 win over Tampa. Same place, same time for game 2 Saturday.

The Philadelphia Flyers are in the final stages of negotiating a contract with John Tortorella for their head coaching job. Torts will reportedly meet with the Flyers today to discuss the offer.

The list of coaches for Canada’s Under-18 Men’s Hockey Team includes Rockets head coach Kris Mallette and former Rockets goaltender Kelly Guard. The team will gather in Calgary for selection camp from July 20-23 ahead of the 2022 Hlinka-Gretzky Cup.

The 122nd U-S Open starts today in Brookline, Massachusetts. Jon Rahm is the defending champion and Canadians in the field include Mackenzie Hughes, Roger Sloan, Corey Conners, Nick Taylor and Adam Hadwin.
