Kelowna International Airport (YLW) has a new expansive art exhibition.

Spanning almost 40 feet long and eight feet tall, the inaugural art installation piece Kate and Molly by Lake Country-based artist Wanda Lock.

The immersive piece was selected by the Kelowna Art Gallery, which is organizing and curating the art space at the airport.

“We’re absolutely thrilled with the opportunities this new dedicated exhibition space provides,” said Nataley Nagy, Executive Director at the Kelowna Art Gallery.

“Plus, it’s hard to miss.”

The four mixed media paintings that make up the piece are located above the airline check-in area to greet travellers as they enter the airport.

The piece is named in part for Molly Bloom, a character from James Joyce’s novel Ulysses, and in part for singer/songwriter Kate Bush.

Lock, who began her formal training in the arts at Okanagan University College in Kelowna before attending Emily Carr College of Art and Design in Vancouver, is considered an important part of the Okanagan arts community. Her work has been shown in many solo and group exhibitions, including three times at the Kelowna Art Gallery.
