RCMP in Kelowna have confirmed the body found near Mission Creek on Friday was a woman who was reported missing on June 14.

Chelsea Cardno, 31, had gone for a walk with her German Shepherd along the fast-flowing creek that day.

On Friday, June 24, RCMP and the BC Coroner’s Service were dispatched to a field adjacent to Mission Creek after a report that a body was located, and a day later, the identification was confirmed.

Cardno’s family has been notified and have confirmed the identification.

“We are all saddened by the outcome, but hope the family can have some closure and they can begin the healing process,” said Cst. Mike Della-Paolera, media relations officer for the Kelowna RCMP.

There is no criminal investigation underway and the Coroners Service will continue to be the lead investigators.

The missing dog has not been located and presumed to have been swept away in Mission Creek.

The RCMP is thanking Central Okanagan Search and Rescue, the hundreds of volunteers and general public who all helped in the search.
