Memorial bike ride set for teen victim
A memorial ride will be held this Sunday for a Lake Country teenager who died in a crash north of the Kelowna Airport last month.
18-year-old Tavin Hansom was killed June 23 when his motorbike collided with a car turning left onto the highway from Old Vernon Road.
“Tavin passed away In Kelowna on June 23, 2022, doing what he loved most, riding his motorcycle,” said a posting from his family on Facebook.
All motor bikers are invited to take part in the ride which goes from McCurdy Corner in Kelowna to the Winfield Memorial Hall starting at 12:15 Sunday. A celebration of life for Tavin will start at 1 p.m. at the hall.
Tavin’s father, Jim Hansom, has started a campaign to get traffic lights added at that Highway 97 intersection which he calls a “death trap.”
The Winfield Memorial Hall is at 10130 Bottom Wood Lake Road in Lake Country.
McCurdy Corner is at 948 McCurdy Road in Kelowna.
