The Kelowna Rockets are making a major change in their radio play-by-play rights.

After spending the last 23 years associated with Bell Media’s AM 1150, the Western Hockey League team has finalized a deal with 104.7 The Lizard to broadcast its games, starting this fall.

The Lizard is owned by Pattison Media, parent company of Vernon Matters and Beach Radio in Vernon and Kelowna.

Karl Johnston, general manger of Pattison Media’s Okanagan division, confirmed the new deal, along with team management.

“Bell Media has been an amazing partner and friend of the Kelowna Rockets,” said Gavin Hamilton, the Rockets’ vice-president of business development. “The decision to move was one that required much deliberation and thoughtful consideration.”

Hamilton said in a news release, the Rockets sincerely thank Bell Media, management and staff for everything they have done.

“We especially want to recognize Regan Bartell. Regan has an incredible voice and his dedication to our fans to produce a first-class broadcast for all Rockets games will always be appreciated. 1150 AM’s Phil Johnson has always shown generous support for the Kelowna Rockets,” Hamilton added.

Hamilton said the broadcasts on The Lizard will debut in the regular season.

“We are very excited to begin our new journey and partnership with Pattison and the Lizard,” he said.
