Three West Kelowna Warriors heading to NHL

A defenceman and incoming forward from the West Kelowna Warriors will don Kraken sweaters next season, while another will be wearing a yellow and black Penguin jersey.

Tyson Jugnauth, the 18-year-old Warrior blue liner who won the BCHL’s Top Defenceman Award and a First Team All-Star this past season, was selected by the Seattle Kraken 100th overall in the fourth round of the 2022 NHL draft Friday, July 8.

Jugnauth finished this past season second in defencemen scoring 50 points in 52 games, including nine goals and 41 assists.

Ben MacDonald, an incoming 18-year-old forward, was selected 91st overall by the Kraken.

MacDonald was set to come to West Kelowna via the Noble & Greenough School in Massachusets, where he led the team in scoring with 14 goals and 15 assists in 22 games.

MacDonald came into the draft ranked 50th among North American skaters, while Jugnauth was rated 66th.

Incoming West Kelowna Warrior Luke Devlin was selected 182nd overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins Friday.

The 18-year-old forward led the St. Andrew’s College Saints in scoring this past season with 19 goals and 28 assists in 44 games.

He entered the draft ranked 202nd among North American skaters.
