West Kelowna Fire Rescue says the cause of two fires that were sparked this week remain unknown.

Investigators were able to determine the fire on Tuesday, July 19, started within a recreational vehicle.

The blaze that destroyed the RV and subsequently started the wildfire off Old Ferry Wharf Road was especially destructive as several propane tanks were engulfed in the flames.

Fire chief Jason Brolund said although the ignition point was identified, the cause of the blaze remains unknown.

The cause of a structural fire on Klein Road in Rose Valley this morning (July 21) was also not determined, though investigators say the fire most likely originated within a pool shed.

The source of heat that led to the ignition was not identified during the investigation.

Brolund said neither of the fires are considered suspicious.

West Kelowna Fire Rescue also stated that the heat of the summer will increase the fire danger in the coming months, and advises people be vigilant with any form of heat or sparks.

People are also asked to be prepared for the rising temperatures and the risk of heat related illnesses in both themselves and their loved ones.
