Kelowna RCMP had to use pepper spray on some people at a party that got out of hand on Friday night in the 200 block of Crossridge Crescent in North Glenmore. Charges are being forwarded for assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and mischief. A number of police received minor injuries. Six individuals were held until they were sober and able to care for themselves. Paramedics were there to help individuals requiring decontamination from the spray. RCMP are welcoming anyone who may have video of the event to come forward.

RCMP have confirmed that three truck drivers were killed in a head-on crash involving semis on Highway 1 at the west gate of Yoho National Park on Sunday. One rig was hauling prized dairy cattle, some of which were 4-H animals destined for the Interior Provincial Exhibition in Armstrong that begins tomorrow. A number of animals died in the crash and resulting fire.

The federal government raised the Survivors’ Flag on Parliament Hill yesterday as a way to honour Indigenous Peoples forced to attend residential schools. The flag was designed in consultation with survivors, with each element of the design approved by the group that was consulted.

The southbound lanes on the Coquihalla between Merritt and Hope were closed for most of the day yesterday after a fiery crash between 2 semis near Comstock. Police say 1 person was killed and another was seriously injured in the crash that started a fire that needed help from both BC Wildfire and local crews.

The RDCO unwanted tire drop-off returns next month. It was cancelled for 2 years due to the pandemic’s health and safety regulations. It’s a free, one-stop tire drop-off event for any old vehicle tires with or without rims. It happens Sunday, September 11 from 9-2 at Okanagan College.

The last time transit drivers went on strike in Kelowna was 2016, but that could soon change. Members of the Amalgamated Transit Union have voted 97% in favour of strike action after their last contract expired in March. The union says the vote sends a strong message for First Transit to come to the table and give workers the fair and just contract that they deserve.

A section of the Mission Creek Greenway that runs through Scenic Canyon Regional Park is open again to visitors after a closure due flood damage. The stretch of trail upstream from the Hollywood Road south trailhead to the Grasslands viewpoint has been repaired and reopened. The Greenway is still closed between the Grasslands and Layercake viewpoints for flood-related repairs.

It may take a couple of tries to get it loaded, but he BC government now has the Health Gateway information on an app. You can use it access and view things like prescription medications, lab results, including blood tests and immunization records. Eventually it will also provide access to diagnostic imaging reports, clinical documents and details on hospital visits. You can download it from Apple or Google Play.

There is a third confirmed case of monkeypox in the Interior Health region. The agency won’t release the location of the first two cases, and will not confirm or deny the latest case is in Kamloops. There have been 129 confirmed cases of monkeypox in BC.

The final preliminary round game for Canada at the Women’s World Hockey Championships in Denmark goes later this morning. Canada is 3 & 0 and takes on the U-S, which is also undefeated, at 11 o’clock.

The Major League Baseball Players Association is attempting to unionize minor leaguers, reversing decades of opposition from owners. While the average major league salary is above $4 million, players with minor league contracts earn as little as $400 a week during the six-month season.

Washington Commanders running back Brian Robinson Jr. is in stable condition after being shot multiple times as the victim in an apparent carjacking attempt. Sources say the 23-year-old was hit in the glute and lower leg.

The Blue Jays began their home series against the Cubs going to extra innings and walked off with a 5-4 win in 11. The second of 3 games begins just after 4 this afternoon at Rogers Centre.

Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo agreed to a restructured one-year contract to remain with the San Francisco 49ers. The new deal is worth $6.5 million in base salary with performance incentives that could lift his earnings to nearly $16 million this year.
