Hit & run incident involving cyclist
Police have arrested a driver who allegedly hit a cyclist and then failed to remain at the scene.
Mounties say a female was riding her bike on KLO Road at De Montreuil Court on Thursday, Sept. 1.
“The female was struck by a motor vehicle which then left the scene. Passing motorists stopped to assist the female who was injured,” said police spokesperson Constable Mike Della-Paolera.
When RCMP arrived, the cyclist was being attended to by the BC Ambulance Service and Kelowna Fire-Rescue.
The victim was transported to Kelowna General Hospital with undisclosed injuries, but she is expected to recover.
“Witnesses identified the vehicle, provided police with the license plate and a description of the driver. This information was also supported by dash cam recordings of the incident,” said the constable.
The police investigation lead officers to a Kelowna residence associated to the vehicle, where the driver was arrested.
The driver has been charged with failure to stop after an accident, a criminal code offence, with further charges possible.
“Without the witnesses stopping to help and providing the RCMP with important information, this investigation and arrest of the driver could not have happened so quickly” said Della-Paolera.
