The Regional District of Central Okanagan has lifted its campfire bans for most areas.

The ban issued on July 28 was rescinded on Wednesday, Sept. 14, as recent showers and cooler temperatures reduced the fire danger rating to moderate.

Campfires are once again permitted within the RDCO fire protection areas, the City of West Kelowna, Westbank First Nation reserves #9 and #10, District of Lake Country and District of Peachland.

People who light campfires are reminded to always monitor the fire, have tools and water on hand, and to fully extinguish the fire before leaving.

Though the campfire ban has been lifted for a majority of the RDCO, the City of Kelowna’s ban remains in effect.

The RDCO also asks people be careful and fully extinguish their cigarettes and other smoking materials.

In a release, RDCO noted fireworks are not permitted in the majority of the district. They can only be used in Lake Country and West Kelowna if approved in writing by the fire chief.
