Suspicious fire extinguished at vacant Kelowna home

Kelowna Fire Department put out a fire that sparked in a vacant home Wednesday morning.

Crews arrived at the vacant four-plex structure in the 200-block of Valleyview Road in the Rutland area at approximately 11 a.m. Sept. 14.

Smoke was seen coming from the soffit area of the residential structure, which was boarded up and behind security fencing.

Crews accessed the property and broke down the front door and entered the house.

The firefighters discovered the blaze in the middle of the living room on the top floor of the A side unit.

The fire, which caused damage to the floor area of the home, was extinguished and the crews ventilated the interior of the house.

The fire has been deemed suspicious and Kelowna Fire Department investigators have been tasked with examining the scene.

The RCMP has also been advised of the fire and the subsequent investigation.
