Gasoline is getting close to two-dollars-a-litre again in Vernon.

GasBuddy.com reports several Vernon stations have boosted their prices by 20 cents a litre, to 199.9 cents for regular unleaded.

At last report, there were still some stations selling for between 174 and 178-cents.

The website says the cheapest gas in British Columbia is at a Tempo station in Enderby for 163.9 cents.

Kelowna’s average is 179.4 per litre, while B.C.’s is 206 cents per litre, highest in the country.

Motorists in Alberta are experiencing the lowest average price in Canada at 144 cents per litre, slightly cheaper than Ontario at 146 cents.

A petroleum analyst at GasBuddy.com told CityNews, a “myriad [of] refinery issues” across the country are to blame for the higher costs.

“A slew of unexpected refinery disruptions, including fires and routine maintenance, have seemingly all happened in a short span of time, causing wholesale gas prices to spike in areas of the West Coast, Great Lakes and Prairies, and some of those areas could see prices spike another 10 to 20 cents per litre or more until issues are worked out,” Patrick DeHaan told CityNews.
