It was another successful Better Together Day for JoeAnna’s House and we were happy to be a part of it. Between donations and phone and online pledges, a total of $47,800 was raised yesterday. Donations go toward helping JoeAnna’s House provide a place for families to stay when a loved one is at Kelowna General Hospital. And again, we thank you.
Victoria is introducing legislation allowing it to convert the delivery fee cap from temporary to permanent. It also prohibits delivery companies from reducing driver compensation, making sure employees and contractors continue to be paid their wages and gratuities. The temporary 15% cap on food and 5% cap on additional fees were introduced in response to fees as high as 30% being charged to restaurants.
Bank of Canada governor Tiff Macklem says more interest rate hikes are necessary to bring inflation down, despite some early signs of a slowing economy. After inflation reached an annual rate of 8.1 percent in June, the pace of price increases in Canada has since slowed, largely due to lower gas prices. In August, the annual inflation rate was 7 percent.
FRIDAY UPDATE: ARRESTED
The West Kelowna RCMP are looking for 32-year-old resident Tyler Jack Newton. He is wanted on a BC-wide warrant for aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and using an imitation firearm, stemming from an incident in West Kelowna last December. Anyone with information should contact 911 immediately. You’ll see a picture below

The RCMP already do it on provincial highways, now they’re doing it on municipal roads. We’re talking about placing radar traps a couple of kilometers away from each other or in this case, a couple of blocks. A driver in Surrey was busted twice within minutes for speeding through a school zone and then a playground zone. $500 in tickets for his lead foot.
Hockey Canada lost a chunk more money as Canadian Tire pulled its sponsorship from the organization. It’s the latest fallout as the sporting organization’s handling of alleged sexual assaults grows. Other companies including Predator Ridge, Telus, Scotiabank, Tim Hortons and Chevrolet Canada that have pulled their backing.
With all the negative news about Hockey Canada, there is some good, and it involves Kelowna. The first game of the women’s Canada/US Rivalry Series will be played at Prospera Place on Tuesday November 15. Tickets are 35 bucks and go on sale this morning at 10 at selectyourtickets.com .
Home sales in the Central Okanagan continued to be lower last month compared to a year ago however prices were still higher. There were 155 single family home sales, a drop of 36 percent from September 2021. The benchmark price dipped below a Million dollars to 982-thousand, still up 1.6 percent from a year ago. Condo sales were down 37 percent, but the benchmark price was up 9 percent to 519-thousand.
Testing results show that no lakes in the Okanagan were exposed to invasive mussels this summer. The Okanagan Water Basin Board says 12 vessels, including four heading to the Okanagan, were stopped by inspectors and found to be carrying the invasive species.

The West Kelowna Warriors are in the Kootenays this weekend for a couple of games. Tonight, they are in Cranbrook while tomorrow they move on to Trail.
The Vancouver Canucks play their final exhibition game tonight before the regular season begins next Wednesday. The Arizona Coyotes visit Rogers Arena at 7.
The Toronto Blue Jays and Seattle Mariners begin their best of 3 American League wild card series today in Toronto. The games today and tomorrow begin at 1 our time.
Off to Japan this week for the Formula One teams. And because it is in Japan, qualifying goes tonight at midnight in BC, while the race begins tomorrow at 11pm.
