Yes, it was warmer than usual last month… in fact it was the warmest October in Kelowna since they started keeping records 122 years ago. The mean average temperature was 12.1 degrees… almost 4 degrees higher than usual for the month. And there was 9.8 mm of rain compared to the normal 29.2
More 10 dollar-a-day child care spaces are coming to Kelowna. Back in the Spring, the province announced it would be supporting 60 spaces. Now, it says there will be an additional 170. The facilities involved are BGCO Cameron Park Early Learning Centre and Martin Avenue Community Centre , along with Dilworth Mountain YMCA Child Care.
Milk prices in Canada are expected to go up again in the new year. The Dairy Commission says it has approved an increase in farm gate milk prices of 2.2 percent, or just under two cents per litre, effective Feb. 1. It comes after the commission approved two price hikes totalling 8 cents a litre this year.
The local city councils are in the process of getting ready to do business after the municipal elections. The mayor and councilors in West Kelowna were sworn in yesterday and will have their first official meeting on the 22nd. Kelowna Council will be sworn in next Monday with the first meeting held the following week.
Anyone looking to pursue a career in health care can get in on a local training opportunity. Interior Health is adding 337 positions to its Health Career Access Program. 205 will be in long-term care, 112 will be in home health, and 20 will be part of a new pilot program in Kamloops.
The Canadian government approached an international commission that helped identify the remains of those killed during 9/11 and the Lac-Mégantic rail disaster to potentially aid its response to the discovery of unmarked graves at former residential schools. With headquarters The Hague, the organization works to help identify people who have gone missing or been killed in major conflicts and disasters using DNA testing.
The city of Kelowna wants to know about the way it offers recreation and cultural programs and activities. It has unveiled the 2022 Recreation and Customer Satisfaction Survey and you can share thoughts on participating in those activities. The all-party Standing Committee on Health has released its report on the drug toxicity and overdose crisis with 37 recommendations aimed at saving lives and moving BC out of the current public health emergency. The report covers 10 categories which include Prevention and Education, Indigenous People, and Enforcement and Decriminalization.
The airline has been doing it for years, but now a union says it is concerned about Sunwing’s proposed plan to hire temporary foreign pilots ahead of the busy winter travel season. Unifor says Sunwing is hiring the pilots to address a labour shortage, but claims the airline has not done enough to fill open positions locally or invest in training. It did not say whether or not it was a dangerous plan.

The Ottawa Senators are heading to the open market. The team is currently owned by the daughters of Eugene Melnyk, who died in March.
