The funeral for RCMP officer Shaelyn Yang was held in Richmond yesterday. As many as 2,000 officers from across Canada were joined in the procession by members of Canada Border Services, Armed Forces, sheriffs, firefighters and paramedics, while another 1,500 members attended the funeral. The procession began underneath a large Canadian flag hung between two extended ladders from fire trucks.
Heads up for a road closure on Knox Mountain Drive this weekend. On Sunday from 8am to 5pm the main parking lot at the base of the mountain, between Broadway Avenue and the first access gate, will be closed. This is to accommodate the School of Hard Knox 2022 BC Provincial Cyclocross championship which has racing categories from U13 to 65+.
The first big mountain snowfall of the season is expected to start this afternoon and last through tomorrow morning. The weather office is predicting 15-20 centimetres for the Connector, Coquihalla and Allison Pass. Gusty winds will further reduce visibility in blowing snow before the freezing level rises and it turns to rain.
Another big lotto winner in the Okanagan. Malery Messer of West Kelowna got a cheque for a Million dollars in the Lotto 6/49 draw October 15. His plans include some trippin to Hawaii and a cruise with his wife. He also says some of his winnings will go toward cancer research.
An Okanagan charity took home the jackpot from a fundraising poker event that made its return from a three-year pandemic absence. The 9th annual Texas Hold’Em Charity Poker Tournament, hosted by Century 21 in Kelowna, saw more than one-hundred players help raise $30,000 for Easter Seals Camp Winfield.
Russia agreed to resume its participation in a deal brokered by Turkey and the U.N. to keep grain and other commodities moving out of Ukraine’s ports during the invasion. Turkey says the renewed deal would prioritize shipments to African nations.
As we pin our poppies on for another year, it’s important not to forget why we do it. That’s why you’ll find more than 200 crosses at Kelowna’s City Park. Each one has the name of a local soldier who made the ultimate sacrifice. The Field of Crosses will be there until November 12.
Kelowna Police are trying to track down a man in connection with another man who was found with non life threatening injuries on Tuesday morning in Millbridge Park. If anyone was walking in the area bordering Ethel, Gordon, Springfield and Sutherland between 6:30 and 7:15, or has home security or dash cam video footage during the same time, call the RCMP.
Two people are facing charges for allegedly giving out Halloween candy in Winnipeg that included THC, the psychoactive compound in cannabis. The treats that looked like Nerds were labeled ‘medicated and contains 600 milligrams of THC. A 53-year-old woman and 63-year-old man face charges including criminal negligence causing bodily harm and administering a noxious substance. There have been no reports so far of any kids being harmed.

The Canucks will try and shake off Tuesday’s loss to New Jersey when they take on the Anaheim Ducks tonight in Vancouver.
Lions quarterback Nathan Rourke is the CFL West division nominee for Canadian of the year. He was born in Victoria.
The Toronto Raptors were in San Antonio last night and left with a 143-100 win.
