Get ready for it to start getting dark even earlier. Most of BC goes back to Standard Time this weekend, so before bed tomorrow night, clocks go back one hour. Daylight Saving Time will return March 12.

A study from the University of Calgary says getting the annual flu shot may have a major health bonus other than fending off the latest strain of influenza – it may also lower the risk of having a stroke. The risk reduction in men was 28 percent, but in women it was only 17. The study said it was likely stemming from men being at higher risk of stroke to begin with.

The Public Order Emergency Commission investigated what happened with roughly $25 million worth of donations made through e-transfers, cryptocurrency and fundraising platforms. The commission says about $1 million was actually spent by the Ottawa convoy’s organizers. About 18 million was refunded to donors, and the rest was either confiscated and put into a third-party fund pending civil court cases.

The Central Okanagan Journey Home Society is working with the City of Kelowna, BC Housing, shelter operators and other partners in responding to cold weather conditions. They will be conducting welfare checks and distributing warming supplies and connecting individuals with shelter and daytime warming locations. The designated outdoor overnight site is at the intersection of Richter and the Rail Trail.

A Liberal mini-budget proposes modest new spending amid growing political pressure to demonstrate fiscal restraint. It includes money for previously announced measures such as temporarily doubling the GST credit, topping up the housing benefit and a dental-care benefit. It also said it would permanently eliminate interest on all federal student loans and apprentice loans beginning April 1, including loans currently being repaid.

A former Fort Nelson resident has died in prison, 40 years after he was handed an indeterminate sentence for two second-degree murders. Darcy Sidoruk was 18 years old in 1982 when he pleaded guilty and was sentenced. He died at 58 serving his sentence at the Pacific Institution in Abbotsford

Canada’s top three grocers all posted higher profits this year compared with their average performances over the last five. Critics have accused grocers of so-called ‘greedflation’, suggesting they are profiteering at a time when food prices are rising at the fastest rate in more than 40 years. A report says it’s unclear whether sales growth is due to food or other items such as baby clothes or makeup.

And the big question in the social media world is how many people will be left working at Twitter by the end of the day. An unsigned email went out yesterday to all employees that its offices around the world will be temporarily closed and all badge access will be suspended. The company had more than 7,000 employees at the end of 2021.

The Canucks took an 8-5 win from Anaheim last night. Andei Kuzmenko with the hat trick. Nashville is in Vancouver tomorrow night.

The Astros leads the World Series 3 games to 2 after a 3-2 win over the Phillies. Game 6 is tomorrow in Houston where the home team can win the championship.

The BC Lions host the Calgary Stampeders in the CFL western semi-final on Sunday at 1:30 and it was revealed that Vancouver will host the 2024 Grey Cup.
