Fortis to lower natural gas fees

FortisBC has announced that its gas customers will see a decrease of about 4 per cent on their bills starting in January.

The company says it should equate to about $4 a month, depending on consumption.

“Customers will see an overall decrease because the cost of gas has gone down,” Joe Mazza, vice-president of energy supply and resource development with FortisBC, said. “It’s important to remember, however, that rates reflect more than just the price of the commodity. Our rates also factor in important infrastructure upgrades and maintenance to our system to ensure the safe and reliable delivery of energy to our customers.”

The announcement comes a day after Fortis said its electricity rates will go up 3.98 per cent in the new year.
