The City of Vernon and Vernon Fire Rescue Services is asking people to be safe when hitting the roads over the holiday season.

The city and VFRS say, whether travelling across town, up to the ski hill, or on the highway, people should be cautious and drive to conditions.

Drivers are also asked to slow down, leave extra space between themselves and other vehicles, allow for extra travel times, and be prepared for potential changing conditions.

VFRS and the city encourage people keep an emergency winter kit in their vehicles that include:

  • First aid kit
  • Food and water
  • Spare warm clothing
  • Matches, lighters and candles
  • Shovel and traction material like sand or kitty litter
  • Battery jumper cables

Members of the public coming across an emergency scene when travelling are also reminded to slow down and follow all traffic control measures to keep themselves, responders and the people involved safe.
