Vernon Search and Rescue (VSAR) responded to a call to rescue two snow bikers who had a mechanical breakdown on Park Mountain in the Lumby area.

The volunteer group said on social media Saturday, the riders were unable to tow the broken machine out, or to ride double due to the heavy, wet snow and terrible conditions.

“Fortunately, the riders were well prepared and did all the right things. They activated their Zoleo satellite device and stayed put, they had a VHF radio and had supplies to make a really good fire and stay safe,” the posting stated.

VSAR was assisted by members of the Lumby Mabel Lake Snowmobile Association including having radio contact with the groomer working the mountain which gave them extra eyes and ears on the mountain during the task.

VSAR warns conditions are changing up top, and advises people to ride safe and make good choices around avalanche terrain.
