British Columbia’s 2023 curling champions are from Vancouver and Victoria.

Clancy Grandy’s team from the Vancouver Curling Club won the women’s title, while Jacques Gauthier of the Victoria Curling Club was crowned the men’s champ after the competitions held at the Chilliwack Curling Club this past weekend.

Both teams advanced to represent their province at national events: for the women, the 2023 Scotties Tournament of Hearts Curling Championships will be in Kamloops from February 17-26, 2023, and for the men, the 2023 Tim Horton’s Brier in London Ontario will be held March 3-12, 2023.

Grandy defeated Corryn Brown’s team from Kamloops and Penticton 10-9 in the women’s final, ending Brown’s dream of representing her province at the Scotties in her hometown. Other members of the winning squad are third Kayla MacMillan, second Lindsay Dubue, lead Sarah Loken and coach Katie Witt.

Gauthier won the men’s title with an 8-5 victory over defending champion Brent Pierce from the Royal City Curling Club. Gauthier skipped the team that also includes third Sterling Middleton, second Jason Ginter and lead Alex Horvath.

Pierce scored three in the final end to defeat Jim Cotter’s rink from Vernon, Kelowna and Kamloops in the semi final 9-8. Cotter has represented B.C. ten times at the Brier.
