Record-breaking weather in 33 B.C. communities

Heat records were set or tied in 33 British Columbia communities Sunday including Vernon where a 99-year old record was broken.

The mercury reached 31.6 degrees Celsius on May 14, eclipsing the old mark of 30.0 set in 1924.

Kelowna also set a record at 31.9 degrees, surpassing the old standard of 30.2 set in 2018.

A special weather statement from Environment Canada continues with the unseasonably hot weather to continue in the B.C. Interior through this week.

“Daytime highs will rise into the low to mid 30’s over the central and southern interior while northern regions will see temperatures reaching the mid to high 20s. Overnight and early morning lows are expected to be in the low to mid-teens,” the weather agency stated.
